Glatt@Klaerschlamm-Konferenz_2020_600x400_200819

Meet the Glatt PHOS4green experts at the 3rd Berliner Klärschlamm-Konferenz

Save the date: November 16, 2020, 4.30 pm!

In the presentation on “PHOS4green – Umsetzung einer Anlage zur Herstellung von 60.000 t/a Düngemittel aus Klärschlammaschen am Standort Haldensleben (PHOS4green – Implementation of a plant for the production of 60,000 t/a fertilizer from sewage sludge ashes at the Haldensleben site)”, Jan Kirchhof, Glatt Ingenieurtechnik GmbH and Torsten Brumme, Seraplant GmbH will present the innovative PHOS4green process, with which the essential and sought-after nutrient phosphorus can be recovered from sewage sludge ashes and used for new phosphate or compound fertilizers.

PHOS4green is a patented, unique phosphorus recovery technology that releases phosphate from sewage sludge ash and converts it into ready-to-use, standardized fertilizers.

Working with Seraplant as a partner, Glatt, a globally recognized leader in fluid bed technology, has developed a highly efficient process that recovers the essential and sought-after nutrient phosphorus from sewage sludge ash and harnesses it for standardized phosphate fertilizer granules using a fluid bed spray granulation process. The digestion of phosphate from the ash is achieved by a simple, flexible and stable process flow with well-controllable reaction steps. Fluctuations in the composition of the sewage sludge ash can be easily compensated for by adjusting the recipe, which ensures consistently high quality. The granules produced are dust-free, durable and stable in storage, and have a compact, homogeneous structure. They can be bagged directly, marketed and dosed like a normal fertilizer. The solubility of this type of granules is easily adaptable to the application. Also, the abrasion-resistant surface reduces undesirable drift effects during application due to its density.

In addition, various compound fertilizers (such as NP, PK and NPK) can be produced by the same process by adjusting the formulation accordingly. The distribution of nutrients in each individual grain is application-specific. Parameters such as grain size, residual moisture and solids content can be specifically influenced to achieve a wide range of product properties.

PHOS4green closes the nutrient cycle sustainably and is an economical solution for fulfilling the legal obligation to recycle phosphorus! This process is 100% waste-free – meaning that the ash can be fully recycled. In addition, the entire process is also waste-free. No harmful intermediate products are produced in the process. The fertilizers produced in this way also contain up to 92 percent less cadmium and uranium than conventionally produced mineral fertilizers, some of whose phosphate sources are heavily polluted. In addition, the pollutant content of the new fertilizer granules is well below the statutory limits.

A project for a large-scale production plant for Seraplant GmbH is already being implemented at the Haldensleben site in Germany. The location, the products to be manufactured and their formulations, and the planned production capacities determine the economic viability.
